Future-proofing KNX: extending the power of a proven standard

KNX has been the backbone of building automation for three decades. The question is no longer whether it is relevant, but how to make it future-ready.

For more than three decades KNX has been the universal language for lighting, HVAC, shading and energy control. Its open, standardized architecture made it reliable. But as buildings become connected, data-driven and cloud-aware, the job is to keep KNX at the centre while letting it reach further.

Interoperability, extended

KNX's strength has always been interoperability — devices from countless manufacturers speaking a shared language. Inspinia extends that to cross-protocol communication, letting KNX interact naturally with Modbus, BACnet, MQTT and more through the SkyPlatform ecosystem. KNX stays the primary control backbone; analytics, voice and mobile control open up around it.

Logic without limits

Traditional KNX logic lives on site. A hybrid logic engine combines local edge processing with cloud-based flow logic in SkyPlatform, so automation rules can respond not only to sensor data on the bus but to external conditions — weather APIs, energy tariffs, occupancy from other systems. The installation reacts beyond the local network while keeping the stability that defines the protocol.

Voice and screens

  • KNX scenes, lighting groups and setpoints triggered by Amazon Alexa, Google Assistant or a custom voice interface, through secure cloud integration.
  • Touch panels as the local, always-on interface, mirroring the structure of the KNX installation.
  • The mobile app for remote visibility and control, even across sites.
  • Lighting, climate and energy dashboards synchronized in real time with SkyPlatform data.

SkyPlatform does not replace ETS

SkyPlatform is a flow-based cloud configurator for visualizing and automating KNX data interactions, with live data streaming, real-time debugging and group telegrams sent through connected gateways. It does not replace ETS or manage KNX programming — it amplifies the project around it.

Where to look next

See KNX solutions for the integration detail, and SkyPlatform for the configurator itself.
